Puca Pucara Ruins

Between 3 or 4 Miles from Cuzco down the road that leads to Pisaq, and within the archeological park of Sacsayhuaman, we found the ruins of Puca-Pucara (Reddish fortress), named this way because of the beautiful color of the earth in the area.

It's located on a small rocky hill in which you can see a series of rectangular formations. Enclosed by a wall and platforms for containment, you can see a fortification with rooms, warehouses, waterways, aqueducts and water springs.

Puca-pucara was a Tambo or housing complex and food storeroom. It's said that was a residential quarter because it was strategically located and the constructions show a typical Inca style.

There are building of stone, with interior plazas, bathrooms and aqueducts, and a road that is recognizable. Because it dominated the territory, many think that they communicated with tambomachay located at half a Mile.
